BIOTECHNOLOGY

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

Biotechnology Degree is one of the five courses approved by National Universities Commission (NUC) for Federal Universities of Technology, Akure in 2015/2016 session. The programme took off as an option in the Department of Microbiology that same session under the headship of Prof. (Mrs.) B. Boboye. About 45 students were admitted for that session.

There are qualified and seasoned lecturers capable of teaching all areas of Biotechnology within the University from other relevant Departments from School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET), School of Sciences (SOS) and School of Health and Health Technology (SHHT); and they have been involved in teaching courses in the Department.

As a result of their dedication, the Department was fully accredited by NUC in 2018. By February 2019, the Management of the University made the Department a full-fledged under the headship of Prof. J. A. V. Olumurewa.

The Department has since been growing in strength and leaving no stone unturned to get the students equipped practically. The motive of the Department is to become a centre of Biotechnology to be reckoned with inside and outside the country.
